Aaron Martin & Justin Wright – Light Poured Out Of Our Bones

For the last instalment in their Circa series, Preservation capture the debut collaboration from astral traveller Justin Wright (Expo 70) and electro-acoustic explorer Aaron Martin. Both musicians have established illustrious, singular catalogues of electronic music with quite varying approaches, but consolidate a common ground on ‘Light Poured Out Of Our Bones’, realising an epically deserted, widescreen psychedelia as potently transcendent as anything they’ve done individually. We embark the journey with the out-of-body witness of ‘Brush Fire’, scanning a landscape of scorched-earth guitar noise with peyote vision, before the empty vastness of ‘Moon Smoke’ unfurls resonant plumes of psychedelic synth textures, and ‘Sleep Threaded Into Ashes’ heightens the mood with a religious reverie of grand organ swells and frothing electronics. The ultimate conclusion is the title track, an ecstatic eleven minute drone hypnotizer with a brooding undercurrent of sputtering machine rhythms and seething synth noise that’ll either bring you back to earth or leave you frazzled and stranded.
